GRIDHOT.ID – The so-called United States (US) military is far behind from China and Russia about hypersonic weapons successfully tested hypersonic missile prototype on May 4, 2022.
This hypersonic missile prototype is a Lockheed Martin version of the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC) that can do travels faster than Mach 5 (five times the speed of sound).
When tested, this hypersonic missile prototype reached heights over 65,000 feet and flew over 300 nautical miles.
Launching the Eurasian Times, Thursday (12/5/2022), this is a flight second success in the HAWC program of the Advanced Research Projects Agency US Defense (DARPA). The first successful US flight was made on mid March.
This Lockheed Martin HAWC test flight was a successful demonstration second design that allows our fighters to be competitive choose the right ability to dominate the battlefield, said Andrew Tippy Knoedler, HAWC program manager at DARPA
This achievement increases the level of technical maturity for transitioning HAWC to a registered service program, he continued.
We are still analyzing flight test data but believe that we would give the US Air Force and Navy an excellent option to diversify available technologies for future missions them, he added.
Significantly, this second test was performed just one day before US Congressional Research Service releases report on Hypersonic Weapons on May 5th.
It should be noted that the US Department of Defense (DOD) budget request or the Pentagon in FY 2023 to Congress covering $225.5 million for hypersonic defense program and $4.7 billion for weapons program hypersonic.
