Sri Lanka Crisis: Arson Attacks Spread, Former Prime Minister Flees

COLOMBO, KOMPAS.COM – Security forces deployed throughout Sri Lanka with permission to shoot the looters, amid the ongoing protests continued over the governments handling of the economic crisis that destroy.
The BBC reported on Wednesday (11/5/2022), President Gotabaya Rajapaksa promised to restore order, in his first national address since the protests started last month.

Ignoring calls to resign, he offered to ceded some powers to parliament and appointed a prime minister, but did not set a timetable.
His brother quit as Prime Minister (PM) on Monday (9/5/2022) amid anger over soaring prices and scarcity.
Sri Lankans are desperate for basic items like food and fuel run out or become unaffordable.
We have come to the protest site despite the curfew, a the protester, Chandrasekaran, told BBC Tamil di Colombo.
We are suffering even now. No kerosene, nothing gasoline, no diesel, and no electricity.
Despite the national curfew, arson attacks by mobs have been happened two nights in a row.
Much of the vandalism targeted Rajapaksas property and other politicians to blame for the chaos in that country.
Shops near Colombo were burned, as well as a sons resort former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
