Reported from bbc.com on Tuesday (26/4/2022), the Minister of Defense AS Lloyd Austin says he hopes Russia loses in Ukraine.
Austin, a retired four-star general, spoke after met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev.
Also involving Foreign Minister Antony Blinken, the visit marks the highest-level trip to Ukraine by a US official since the invasion started more than two months ago.
The meeting between the US and Ukrainian sides, which lasted for more of three hours, occurred as Russia stepped up its military campaign in south and east of the country.
At a press conference in Poland following the visit, Austin told reporters that the US wanted to see Russia weakened to unable to do things as he had done in invaded Ukraine.
The Pentagon chief added that US officials still believe Ukraine can win the conflict with the right equipment and proper support.
