Amina Wadud Who Became the First Lady to Lead Friday Prayers: I Don’t Intend to Be Controversial
YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.COM Amina wadud -who chose to write name in lowercase, according to Arabic letters that do not recognize capital letters- to be the first woman to lead the prayer service Fridays in the United States (US) and the UK in 2005 and 2008.
Her name is known to the public as Lady Imam.
However, long before that, in 1992, he had made a breakthrough by writing the book Quran and Woman .

Amina Wadud is a US citizen of African descent who is now living in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
He earned his doctorate from the University of Michigan, USA to study Arabic and Islamic.
Amina Wadud also received Arabic education at America University in Cairo, Egypt, as well as Quran and Tafseer Studies in Al-Azhar University, Egypt.
He started research for his book, Quran and Woman as part of dissertation since the 1980s.
I learned Arabic as the key to the door of understanding (Quran), not as the door, said Amina.
Since its publication 30 years ago, Quran and Woman has been translated into at least seven languages, including Indonesian.
