JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Financial Affairs Security Mahfud MD held a delegation meeting with the Assembly Papuan People (MRP).
Mahfud met by MRP Chair Timothy Murib, MRP Deputy Chair Yoel Luiz Start, Special Staff to the Chairman of the MRP Onias Wenda, and the Executive Director Amnesty International Indonesia Usman Hamid.
On that agenda, the MRP was accompanied by Amnesty International Indonesia at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Friday (15/4/2022).
MRP conveys many things, one of which is about new mining in Indonesia Wabu after Freeports contract extension.
In response to this, Mahfud stated that the government was listening to aspirations submitted by the MRP. Because according to him the government will keep pay attention to indigenous peoples.
I convey that the new mining is carried out by BUMD and BUMN while still paying attention to the rights and welfare of the wider community and indigenous peoples. Until now there is no Mining Business Permit (IUP), wrote Mahfud as quoted by KOMPAS.TV from his Instagram account official.

On this occasion the MRP also submitted an aspiration letter to The President of the Republic of Indonesia, whom I accept to convey, added Mahfud.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International Indonesia Executive Director Usman, conveyed that there was a letter submitted by the MRP to Mahfud to forwarded to President Joko Widodo.
According to Usman, referring to Law Number 2 of 2021 concerning Second Amendment to Law Number 21 of 2001 concerning Autonomy Especially for Papua Province, Usman said, the MRP conveyed: a number of things to Jokowi.
